-IV needles :(
-or being intubated :((
-or having my carotid artery shoved out of place:(((
But, I will *fingers crossed* no longer suffer from this relentless shoulder / arm / hand pain.
While I'm away, don't forget about me!
As promised, my recovery TBR list includes, but is not limited to:
-Finish up craft book, Thanks, But This Isn't For Us by Jessica Page Morrell

And for fun:-Finish Would-Be Witch by Kimberly Frost
A Southern Witch novel

-Bossypants a memoir by Tina Fey (Hubby picked this one up for me since, I too, am a bossypants.)

The Legend of Victor Standish by Roland YeomansRites of Passage by Roland Yeomans
***Much gratitude to the super-awesome-generous, Roland Yeomans for gifting me so many wonderful reads while I'm recovering!!! IF you haven't seen Roland's blog, you must! You can find these great reads and more @ Writing in the Crosshairs
That concludes my TBR list.
And, if Seven Minutes in Heaven caused a double-take, I didn't mean the teenager's party game. (Oh, and for the record, the ONE time I did play as a teenager, I sat in a dark closet, with a boy, and we decided to pretend we'd kissed. Instead, we sat in there and talked about who would kiss who!)
I've been listening to The Power by Rhonda Byrne. She also wrote The Secret. Before anyone says, "Whoa! Trigger, don't get all preachy on us!" I promise not to. :)
May I just say here, I adore her accent!
However, one of the most profound things on the entire audio book I've heard so far, is when you desire something, you should *imagine* having it for seven minutes a day. Sounds simple, doesn't it? My #1 desire is seeing my work in print.
So, (when I'm not riding on my cranky horse of recovery) my plan is to imagine being a published author, for seven minutes daily.
Each day, I will designate a few short minutes to feeling like a published author. I will imagine the touch of my very own book. The scent. The image. The overwhelming sense of accomplishment, gratitude and love for the art of writing. I will imagine book signings, hugging my adoring fans, school visits, interviews on NPR, rubbing elbows with fabulous authors (yeah, I went there!), walking down the street and hearing, "Is that her?", and sharing the wealth of information and success with all my writer peeps, so that they too can touch their dreams.
While I'm away from the blogosphere, know that I'm still around, I'm just crawling inside my healing bubble (imagining it a billowy pastel pink) and getting better. Know, you'll all be on my mind. And, who knows, I may bounce back quickly and be back online in no time at all. :))
~xoxoxo my writer friends!

My prayers are with you now and will be ever stronger. Just because you are away, I will come back here and leave a message just in case you are at least well enough to visit or have your loved ones visit and relay my well-wishes or dumb jokes.
ReplyDeleteVictor Standish wanted me to tell you one of his :
"What did one snowman ask the other?"
"Is it just me, or do you smell carrots!"
{I pointed out to Victor that where you live there may not be much snow. He assured me you would laugh and laugh. Humility is not one of his virtues!}
Thank you for shouting out for me on so many of my books. It was very kind and gracious of you.
Nat King Cole is singing "Nature Boy" here in the haunted jazz club, Meilori's, as I write. It is one of my favorites. His duet with his daughter, Natalie, could be Victor's theme song. LOL. He just rolled his eyes at me.
I will add my prayers that soon you will be a published author! If you have a book you are willing to gamble on Kindle Direct Publishing, I will help you when you recover.
The Father is the greatest physician, and I will pray He guides the hands of the surgeon and speeds your recovery. Always in your corner, Roland
You crack me up, Roland! Please tell Victor that he was right. I LOVE snowmen, and what an adorable joke! No, in southeast Texas it's usually too warm to snow, but I have about 50 or so around the interior of my home during the winter. Snowmen melt my heart. :)
DeleteThank you for your heartfelt prayers and your faithful visits to my blog.
P.S. Tell Victor to keep the jokes coming!
Candy, the best thing about being laid up is the time to read, so enjoy that! And the pampering. Before you know it, you'll be on the road to recovery. BTW, I love Roland's cover art with the bear! Going to check that book out myself!
ReplyDeleteYou said it, Catherine. I can't wait to dig into my reads. I hope you enjoy Roland's blog and books. I always find something great when I visit Writing in the Crosshairs.
DeletePrayers with you for your surgery!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alex!! And thanks to Roland, I found out I had the silly word-verification thingy on my blog. Now it's off!
DeletePraying for you for a good surgery and speedy recovering!
ReplyDeleteAnd LOVED Daughter of Smoke and Bone. It's actually the book that inspired me to write the current work I am querying :)
Thanks, sweetie! And, I am just loving D of S&B, gosh, it's so well written. Her language, description and style is beautiful and enticing.
DeleteThanks for all the book recommendations, and especially for the visualization technique. I will include a visualization for a quick and complete recovery for you! ;)
ReplyDeleteTake care, and be well soon!
I'm glad you enjoyed the book list. The technique of thinking positive and imagining what you want already in your hands, is one I just started. It's got to be better than walking around thinking I'll never get published. Thanks for your sweet thoughts about a quick recovery. :))
DeleteThanks, Catherine, for checking my BEAR WITH 2 SHADOWS out. It grew from the stories my mother told me while I was ill with pneumonia and we both trapped in our basement apartment during an ice storm. Though half-Lakota Sioux, she was also half Irish and loved THE LORD OF THE RINGS long before it became a movie! Her stories of Hibbs, the bear with 2 shadows, grew from that and from Lakota myth.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it.
Candy, your surgery is just around the corner, so no jokes. But today is the day when THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN was published. A book with many critics but one which Ernest Hemingway said marked the beginning of American literature!
So I am visualizing you, not only published, but hugely successful!! Remember Mark Twain's hard won success. Roland
You know I am your friend if I endure those annoying 2 words verifications to say HI! LOL.
Ack! I had that pesky word verification thingy on my blog??? Oh-my-gosh, I'm so sorry peoples! I always hate doing them myself, and here @ the Trail, I have it too. Well, it's now switched off. I seriously thought it was off...
DeleteRoland, thank you for your sweet comments, and I love the thought of Huck Finn being published today, what a nice thought on this rainy afternoon.
Btw, I love your jokes!
Good luck with your surgery Candy - and it looks like you've got great books to keep you busy until then. We'll be waiting for you when you get back!
ReplyDeleteThank you, J. Ro!! I'm recovering nicely. It's been seven days now, and each day seems to be better than the previous.
DeleteAs Jaye said, Great fortune with your operation. Your surgery looms, but The Father stands by your side. I know. I asked Him to.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the very kind words on my blog. I cannot take credit for the good (it is my mother's Lakota teaching and stories!) Ah, but the bad ...
What did Shakespeare say of being a fool in TWELFTH NIGHT?
"He does it with a better grace, but I do it more naturally." LOL.
I do hope you enjoy my books over these next weeks. May your recovery be speedy and as painless as possible. With shoulder surgeries, there is always some nurse forcing you to move it farther and more often than you think you can do. Know that my spirit will be there with you, murmuring, "You can do it ... if only to make the healing faster."
And I look forward to the day when I read many a book by you!
Victor has forced me to tell you another one of his jokes :
"Did you hear about the man who lost his whole left side!
He's all right now."
Don't worry. Alice just kicked him in the shin for you!
Today Prince Andrew was born in 1960. What did Princess Margaret say? "My children are not royalty. They just have the Queen for an aunt!" Life.
My prayers are with you, Roland
Roland, you make me smile! I have to tell you, I told Victor's joke to the surgeon and the head surgery nurse. The doctor laughed and the nurse at first, did not get it. I was already sedated, so of course, I laughed hysterically as they wheeled me into the operating room. Surgery went well, I fell asleep as soon as I heard Sweet Child of Mine (Guns & Roses) playing in the background. Guess my surgeon likes 80's rock & roll. :)
DeleteHi, Candy :) I just wanted to wish you all the best with today. Don't worry, everything's going to work our without any problems, and you'll be out and about in no time! Take care :)
ReplyDeleteJack
Thanks, Jack!! All went well, and recovery is going smoothly.
DeleteJack is right. Medical science is so advanced these days. You are in great hands. With far less advanced technolgy John Glenn orbited the earth for the first time on this date. My prayers and thoughts are with you, Roland
ReplyDelete:)))))
DeleteHi Candy! I wanted to let you know you're still in my prayers and I wish you all the best with the recovery. :)
ReplyDeleteAwe, you guys all rock!
DeleteI hope all went well with the surgery and that you are lounging around eating applesauce and reading lots of excellent books. I look forward to hearing more about your writing journey when you return!
ReplyDeleteYes, Faith, the surgery was successful. Still in a neck brace as they fused C-5 & C-6 together. It'll be another 4 weeks or so until full recovery, but I'm on the mend. Thanks!!
DeleteI hope the recovery is going really well. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela! I'm glad you stopped in. I'm definitely healing and feeling much better.
DeleteIt's Friday, March 2nd and I'm lurking in here to see if you are back. So glad to hear you are starting to feel better.
DeleteI'm slow getting back into the blogging groove. I've popped in a couple of times, but can't seem to get motivated. I am physically getting better, every day, but my mental state is taking its sweet time. Guess that's to be expected. Thanks for checking in, Angela. :))
DeleteI've a grim time at the blood center (worked 20 hours straight yesterday) so my free time has been scant. But Victor was concerned about you since he feels your surgery is over, and I should darn well drop in on you.
ReplyDeleteSigh. Yes, that means another of his terrible jokes :
"So, Candy, there I was in the gypsy's tent. The fortune teller gazed into her crystal ball and then ...
she started to laugh uncontrollably.
So I punched her in the nose.
It was the first time I had ever struck a happy medium."
Ouch. Alice kicked him in the shin again for you!
Here's hoping you are feeling some better from your surgery. I am praying for you, Roland
Again, my faithful follower & friend, I'm smiling! Feeling a bit better today, and actually checking in here. Won't sit too long, as my neck gets tired quickly sitting up. You'll have to read my reply to you from earlier. I told the doctor one of Victor's jokes. He said he'll have to remember that one for future patients! (I gave Victor credit. Except I didn't say he was a character...)
DeleteYou pace yourself. Saturday was a 20 hour straight day for work. I am still trying to recover from that! Victor has a big head now that you told his joke to the doctor. So, of course, he insists on telling you another one!
ReplyDeleteA dentist ran out of anaesthetic just before the last extraction for the day was scheduled.
He gave the nurse a very large needle, instructing her to jab it hard into the patient's butt when the signal was given, so it would take his attention away from the tooth extraction.
It all happened in an instant.
The nurse, patient, and pliers were in place. The signal was given, and the nurse bayoneted the patient with the needle just as the dentist yanked the tooth.
Afterwards, the dentist asked, "Hurt much?"
The patient hesitated, "Didn't hardly feel it come out. And, man, those roots were really deep!"
Alice is too busy gagging to kick Victor! Thanks for visiting my blog today, Roland
I love Victor's sense of humor. It's as if he knows laughter really is the best medicine. Alice cracks me up. The two are quite a pair.
DeleteYou take it easy now. 20 hour days will catch up to you.
